The Mungiki: Called a Gang in Kenya

The Mungiki was inspired by the 1950s Mau Mau rebellion against the British colonial rule. The so called “gang” has had clashes with residents near the town of Karatina that has killed at least 29 people.

The Mungiki emerged in the 1990s and it has thousands of followers from Kikuyu, Kenya’s largest tribe.

Because this tribe, the largest, is accused of extorting money and is a dominant force in Kenya’s politics and business, it sounds more like a ‘mophia’.
